A summer photo-journal for reconnection

Hold this:

You don’t need to change your life this summer.
You only need to notice how you care for yourself and remember it.

The technique:

Take one photo a day. Just one.
Not to post. Not to “use.”
Only to say:

“Here, I cared for myself.”

It may be something small.
But once you capture it, it becomes meaningful.
Because your brain remembers best what you show it with image and emotion.

Where to save your photos:

Create a folder on your phone or computer called:
“Me, when I cared for myself.”

Give each photo a gentle title like:
– “Here I rested”
– “Here I said no”
– “Here I let something wait”
– “Here I drank my coffee slowly”

These simple phrases are mindful anchors (NLP tools) that connect image + feeling + awareness.

Remember How You Cared for Yourself

7 photo categories to capture your self-care

1. I Rested

📷 Photograph:
– A chair in the shade
– An unmade bed
– A hammock with no schedule

💬 What it reveals:
I stopped.
Not because I finished something.
But because my body asked me to, and I listened.
No guilt. No reward needed.
Rest became a choice—not a surrender.

2. I Was With Myself

📷 Photograph:
– An open book
– A quiet bench
– Your feet on the veranda

💬 What it reveals:
I wasn’t alone.
I was with myself and that was enough.
No scrolling. No talking.
I listened to the silence and felt my presence.

3. I Heard My Body

📷 Photograph:
– Feet in the sea
– A hand resting on your chest
– A relaxed position

💬 What it reveals:
I gave my body what it needed—before it had to shout.
I didn’t push it aside. I didn’t silence it.
I felt it. I honored it.

4. I Didn’t Try to Be Anything

📷 Photograph:
– Your face without filters
– No makeup, no mask
– A real, unedited expression

💬 What it reveals:
I didn’t try to fix anything.
I was simply me and it was enough.

5. I Slowed Down

📷 Photograph:
– An empty coffee cup
– A table bathed in light
– A scene without clocks or notifications

💬 What it reveals:
The day flowed without me forcing it.
I didn’t rush. I didn’t “arrive.”
I just existed. And that was enough.

I Cared Without Needing a Reason

📷 Photograph:
– A meal you made just for you
– A flower in a vase
– Fresh sheets, even if no one saw them

💬 What it reveals:
There was no occasion.
Only need. Only love.
And I honored them without guilt.

I Heard What I Needed

📷 Photograph:
– A post-it with one word
– A quote you saved
– A thought you wrote down without planning

💬 What it reveals:
I asked myself: “How am I? What do I need?”
And I didn’t skip over the answer.
I listened. I responded. I cared.

💛 What this gives you:

✔️ Activates your memory of calm
✔️ Connects the simple with the meaningful
✔️ Builds intentional self-care
✔️ Strengthens the observing self, not the reactive one
✔️ Becomes a positive anchor for your brain (NLP-based)

And in the winter…

There will come a day when you say:

“I can’t do this anymore.”

That’s when you open the folder.
Don’t rush to remember.
Look.

And once you do, you’ll recall:

“Here, I cared for myself. So I can again.”

Each photo is a quiet pain reliever that never expires.
A soft reconnection with the version of you that breathes slower.

This was today’s RFL.
If something touched you, take a photo.
Or better yet…
Send this to a teacher who may need it today.
They may not need advice
just a moment to remember how they once cared for themselves.

💬 Care for yourself the way you care for your students.
With patience. With kindness.
Without asking for permission.
