Children are asked to give life to something unfinished, to turn it into an animal, an object, or even a fantastical creature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And in truth, what we\u2019re measuring is not the drawing itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s their way of seeing the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr data-ogsc=\"\" \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83d\udd39 <\/span><b>Through this activity we discover:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fluency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: how many ideas they can generate, how effortlessly their creativity flows.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flexibility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: whether they can shift perspective, move beyond one path, and explore many.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Originality<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the courage to stand out, to dare something \u201cdifferent.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Elaboration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: how they nurture an idea, adding detail and care until it becomes a masterpiece.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83d\udca1 <\/span><b>How to bring it into your classroom<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>On the board:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Draw lots of doodles with a marker. At the end, all papers come together into a \u201cwall of creativity\u201d:\u00a0 a wallpaper of imagination. English under their drawing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83d\udc49 Example:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A child turns a spiral into a snail and writes: \u201cThis snail carries my ideas slowly but surely.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another transforms a curve into an airplane and writes: \u201cMy dreams can fly anywhere.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This way, the doodle is not just an image, but also <\/span><b>a message<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I first borrowed this idea from <\/span><b>creativity tests for gifted children <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0but it also works as an <\/span><b><i>equalizer<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>students with learning difficulties.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr data-ogsc=\"\" \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83d\udd39 <\/span><b>Why is it an \u201cequalizer\u201d?<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>There isn\u2019t one right answer<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In language (grammar, spelling), there\u2019s often right\/wrong \u2192 children with difficulties feel disadvantaged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In creativity tests, every answer has value \u2192 the \u201cfunny\u201d or \u201csilly\u201d idea counts just as much as the \u201cserious\u201d one.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><b>Imagination is valued over memory<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gifted students can throw out complex, imaginative ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Struggling students, who may find reading\/writing hard, can shine with a visual or verbal idea \u2014 no perfect grammar required.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><b>A level playing field<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A child with dyslexia might draw or say a wonderful new use for a spoon (\u201cIt\u2019s a microphone\u201d) \u2192 and the whole class applauds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The gifted child might give 10 ideas, but that one unique answer is equally precious.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><b>Atmosphere of acceptance<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In these tasks, \u201ccrazy\u201d and \u201cimaginative\u201d are positives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children who usually hear \u201cwrong\u201d now hear \u201cgreat idea!\u201d \u2192 self-esteem rises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr data-ogsc=\"\" \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83d\udd39 <\/span><b>What does this mean in the language classroom?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gifted children may use more advanced vocabulary (\u201cI\u2019d transform the brick into a futuristic robot\u201d).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children with difficulties can give simple answers (\u201cIt\u2019s a chair\u201d) and still fully join the game.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The teacher can build on each answer \u2192 scaffolding: \u201cIt\u2019s a chair.\u201d \u2192 \u201cGreat! Can you say: It can be a chair for my doll?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this way, even the simple becomes rich without the child ever feeling \u201cless.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr data-ogsc=\"\" \/>\n<p><b>\ud83d\udd39 Psychological benefits<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gifted students release their creative energy and don\u2019t get bored.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students with difficulties don\u2019t get left behind, because participation relies on imagination, not spelling or rules.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The class develops a culture of acceptance: everyone has something to bring.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2728 <\/span><b>Why it matters<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the classroom<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the waiting room<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even as homework<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This activity acts as a mirror of the soul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It shows us how a child thinks, how they face the \u201cincomplete,\u201d and how they transform emptiness into creation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because creativity is not just a skill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s the way a child says:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><b>This is me.
